Wild Food &
White Water with Susun Weed
May 9-11, 2003 (Fri-Sun) - 3
days, 2 nights
Thanks for your interest in our wild food, white water weekend.
The workshop begins at noon the Wise Woman Center on
Friday. We will have a talking stick ceremony and then go on a wild
food walk, harvesting greens for our salad that evening. Around 4pm
we will carpool for a two-hour drive into the Adirondack Forest Preserve
and the headwaters of the Hudson River. I will provide a "picnic"
dinner at 6:30 for all of us. (If you live north of the Wise Woman
Center or don't mind missing the wild food walk, you may choose to
meet us at the Inn on Gore at dinnertime.) After dinner we will prepare
ourselves for our journey with the help of our guide Lori Benton.
Friday night we will sleep indoors at the Inn on Gore,
with at least two women sharing
each room. If you want a private room (if available), you pay the
difference in cost.
On Saturday morning, after a light breakfast (which
I will provide), we'll suit up (gear provided by the outfitters) and
get on a bus to our "put in" on the river. Our guide Lori
will teach us how to read the river, how to paddle through calm water
and rapids, and how to steer our inflatable raft as we float all day
on the river.
Of course, we'll pay special attention to the green
allies. We'll learn some botany, some herbal medicine, some greenfolk
folklore, and the lowdown on fine dining with wild foods. We'll enter
the realm of the plant spirits with song and dance and shamanic trance.
We'll journey into our own waters as well as the waters of life, discovering
the wild woman within.
We'll have a marvelous meal on shore Saturday night
and an exciting night camping out and mentally preparing for the big
rapids we'll run on Sunday. A short float brings us to the busy part
of the river, where we will join other rafts of thrill seekers spilling
through some of the best white water in the northeast. Too soon it
will be over, we will be picked up by a bus and returned to the Inn.
There we will be treated to a delicious meal, share a final talking
stick, and get on the road back to the Wise Woman Center (or your
home).
The list below will help you pack for the trip. (I prefer
silk underwear instead of polypro.) I'm really looking forward to
our adventure!
Green blessings,
Susun Weed
