Part two, Sacral Chakra

This second article on balancing your chakras, focuses on the sacral chakra, using nature to help restore a feeling of equilibrium, peace and wellbeing. If you have any concerns about finances, sexuality, creativity, or partnerships, then it is worthwhile to explore and clear your sacral chakra, the connection to all of these aspects of yourself.
Root Chakra
The sacral chakra, found in the lower abdomen, below the navel, holds the key to releasing the knots in your belly that can be created by worry over lack of money, partnership issues, the inability to conceive – literally or figuratively – addictions, and sexual difficulties. When clear and healthy, the sacral chakra is the source of a great sense of wellbeing.
There are various ways to clear and align your chakras, and I will describe here a method related to connecting with the earth – a meditative walk for your sacral chakra. Set the intention before leaving to explore one aspect of your sacral chakra, and to release what no longer serves you and replace it with what is in your highest interest. Plan to focus on one aspect in nature that calls out to you. Using all your senses, notice what strikes your eye first, what you hear, what you feel drawn to touch or to smell. Take the time to really see it.
Think about what this object means to you and how it makes you feel. You may wish to photograph what you find and look at the picture. How can this shell, pine cone, flower, or snow-covered branch help you release old energy and see things differently? Symbols and archetypes have a light and a dark side, and the dark side also has a use. If, for example, a flat expanse of bare rock makes you feel empty, let this image push you to determine what you really want to create, where you truly want to be, and how you would like to create your spiritual path.
As an example, recently I hiked on the island of Montserrat in the British West Indies, where the Soufrière Hills Volcano erupted in 1996, and a number of times afterwards, most recently in February, 2010. As I walked along the beach of Old Road Bay, on the dark volcanic sand, I looked inland towards the rising land, where there used to be an emerald green 18 hole golf course. Now I saw the dilapidated upper story of the club house poking out of the ash, and the dried up river bed of ash and mud, where the pyroclastic flow had raced down to the sea. Some scrawny cows grazed on sparse bits of grass. Everything seemed dreary. But at my feet what caught my eye was a small miracle – an almond seedling, sprouted and rising bravely out of the grey landscape.
It was a potent lesson in the regeneration of nature, and the ability to grow and to create, even through very difficult circumstances. The small green leaf unfurling reminded me of the creative energy of the kundalini life force awakening and rising upwards out of the root chakra, activating and energizing the sacral chakra as it unfolds. The almond tree that this small seedling will become stood for future abundance. Nature is a wonderful teacher, and the sight of this small green leaf left me with a feeling that all things are possible.
