 http://phyllistarlow.com/ From early childhood, nature and being outdoors has played a strong role in my life, but until recent years, that wasn’t my focus as an artist. For many years, portraits and figurative work were my mainstay. Now, although I continue to paint portraits on commission, my greatest passion has become my creation of oil landscapes. I look for wonderful locations and do small studies en plein air and take loads of digital photos as reference. I then return to the studio with my studies and photos and either refine the studies for exhibition and sale or use them as an aid in doing larger paintings.
I feel the need to reach people through my paintings and share the great beauty of this planet we live on and which I feel is imperiled. Happily, I’m finding ways to use my paintings to support organizations and causes I believe in.
